Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Benjamin Hall is a man shaped by displacement and survival. Born under the occupation of Xenex by the Danteri, he grew up navigating a world filled with hardship, liberation, and lingering distrust. Outwardly stoic and rugged, he has an air of self-possession that can make him seem aloof; however, beneath that surface lies a fierce loyalty and a deep protectiveness for those he considers family. For much of his life, Ben felt like an outsider — in the Federation, among pirates, and even within his own people. His past need to prove himself, combined with a guarded nature, made it difficult for him to find a place where he truly belonged. This began to change when he joined the Maquis. Among them, he found acceptance for the first time. The Maquis value him not for his conformity, but for who he is: a survivor, a fighter, and a brother-in-arms. Ben is decisive under pressure, adaptable, and highly resourceful. He values honor, resilience, and independence, guided by a strong sense of duty to causes greater than himself. Yet, because of his past experiences, he remains cautious, sometimes restless, and slow to trust—traits that continue to influence his interactions, even in a place that now feels like home. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: + Psionic Sensitivity (Low-Level): A rare instinctual psionic ability allows Ben to sense danger, read subtle cues, or detect intent without conscious effort. While limited, it gives him an edge in tense situations. + Telepathic Resistance: As a Xenexian, his mind is naturally difficult for non-Xenexians to probe. This provides a strong defense against telepathic intrusion, making him particularly hard to manipulate or interrogate. + Engineering Prodigy: Exceptional technical skill and intuition allow him to repair, improvise, and modify mechanical and starship systems under pressure. + Combat Expertise: Trained in weapons and hand-to-hand combat both formally and informally. Highly adaptable in a variety of combat scenarios. + Physical Resilience: His high bone density and muscular frame give him durability and strength beyond what his outward appearance suggests. + Loyalty and Dedication: Once he considers someone family or a cause worthy, his commitment is unwavering. Protecting those he trusts is a driving force in his life. + Resourcefulness and Adaptability: Years of surviving under occupation, in Starfleet, and among pirates have honed his ability to think on his feet, improvise, and thrive in unpredictable circumstances. Weaknesses - Identity Conflict: Ben wrestles with questions of belonging; Xenexian pride, hidden Danteri ancestry, and his varied experiences leave him feeling disconnected at times. - Guarded Nature: He keeps emotional distance and is slow to trust, even among allies, which can hinder cooperation. - Restlessness: His need for purpose and belonging makes him prone to moving on when he feels out of place, leaving personal and professional ties fragmented. - Stubborn Independence: Difficulty submitting to authority he does not respect; may resist orders he perceives as unnecessary or limiting. - Residual Trauma: Past violence, symbolized by his scar, can trigger defensive aggression or emotional flashpoints under stress. - Limited Psionic Control: His low-level psionic ability is instinctual and unreliable. It cannot be consciously controlled, and in unfamiliar or high-stress environments, it may fail or mislead. |

| Hobbies & Interests | Mechanical Tinkering & Starship Modification: Enjoys experimenting with engines, weapons, and ship systems, sometimes finding inventive solutions to technical problems. Physical Training & Combat Practice: Regularly hones his strength and fighting skills, both for personal discipline and to remain mission-ready. Cultural Crafts & Xenexian Rites: Privately practices aspects of his heritage, such as ritual symbols or small artisan crafts, connecting with his roots. Tactical Puzzles & Strategy Games: Engages in games or simulations that challenge problem-solving, planning, and improvisation skills. |

| Personal History | Born B’n’j’min of Hal’chgn, Benjamin Hall grew up under the long shadow of the Danteri occupation of Xenex. The Xenexians had endured three centuries of subjugation before their freedom in 2354, when Ben was only barely seven years old. The legacy of slavery, resistance, and eventual independence left a deep mark on him, shaping his fierce pride and his mistrust of outside powers. From childhood, Ben showed a natural aptitude for engineering, easily dismantling and rebuilding machinery. This gift, along with a sponsor, enabled him to attend Starfleet Academy, where he adopted the name Benjamin Hall to blend in with Federation society. But even as he excelled in technical courses, he never felt at home. After two years, he left Starfleet, unable to bridge the cultural distance. Adrift, he drifted briefly into piracy before finding kinship among the Maquis, who were fighting for survival and freedom much like his people once had. In addition to engineering, Ben drew upon his Xenexian upbringing, where weapons training and combat skills were considered necessities. Taught security tactics both at home and at the Academy, he proved himself equally capable with phasers, bladed weapons, and close-quarters combat. Now serving as a Security Deputy aboard the Maquis raider Ada Lovelace, Ben balances his dual strengths: the engineer who assists in keeping the ship running, and the fighter who protects his crew with unshakable resolve. For the first time, he feels he belongs—not because he has conformed, but because the Maquis accept him as he is: a survivor, a fighter, and a brother-in-arms. |
