Talks often get derailed....but no need to worry

345 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: A New Dawn
Location: Deep Space Nine

"....the colonies should be allowed to defend themselves," the young blonde parliament member said, looking around the table, "all we want....," but a laugh stopped her, the laugh was not kind, but malicious. "Is this funny? Starfleet's history of protecting these colonies is a joke, and please don't try to deny that. All we are asking for is the right to protect ourselves," she stated again, glaring at the person who did the malicious laugh.

Vedrum smirked as he watched the young blond woman hold her own against a bunch of stuffed-up Starfleet officers and Federation politicians. "Enough, we won't sit here and be insulted by....," but the new voice was also suddenly cut off.

"Admiral, Madam Bex is not asking for a lot; it is barely an ask, as what she wants is an inalienable right for all," Vedrum said as he remained relaxed, but his mind was racing.

"You mean you want that terrorist group to be the defense force? They gave up those rights.....," he was cut off again, but by the ambassador.

"Enough!" The ambassador sighed, looking around the room, "this is not how we conduct these kinds of talks. We'll continue tomorrow. Go clear your heads, get a good night's rest, and let's hope we can conduct ourselves better tomorrow." And with that, the room slowly emptied.

After leaving the conference room, the pair walked in silence until they were away from the leading group, "your father would have been very proud of you, you held your ground," Vedrum said as they walked, "but we need to be careful we don't push too hard, right now, the Federation Ambassador is understanding where we are coming from, but as you saw Starfleet is well being Starfleet," he added.

"We have to be the ones to tread lightly," Ziveh scoffed before turning and leaving the colonel in her wake.

Vedrum smirked, glad to see someone still having the passion. This push for freedom needed that, as much passion as possible, but it needed to be directed and used at the right time.
